Kunst mit Refills

Art with refills

Acrylic paints are excellent for painting with opaque coverage on all kinds of materials. Here you'll learn how to do this with refills instead of acrylic markers like the Neuland AcrylicOne .

Choose painting surface

I decided to paint on black paper here. Neuland offers it either on a roll or as a flipchart pad (BlackPad). Your artwork will really stand out on this medium.

The first step

Remember to shake the bottle of refill paint well so that the paint particles mix thoroughly with the water. Shake it a little longer to ensure you're happy with the result!
Then open the bottle's cap and gently place the tip on the paper. With light pressure on the soft refill bottle, the paint will begin to flow from the dispensing tip. Now use it to paint the first element onto the paper. Don't worry about drips or runs.

Why is that? Because with this technique we deliberately want to create color runs! Once you've finished drawing your design, take the paper and tilt it to create runs.

Wait until this first part of your artwork is dry. Then you can add further elements to the paper using other colors.

What's exciting about this technique are the thick streaks of color and the small bubbles that form. If you don't wait between layers, the colors mix easily. You can see this in the red lines with the blue border of varying width, or the red line with the yellow border. Here, when the paper was tilted, the individual colors found the same path.

The colored stripes in this picture were all created by simple splashes of paint in the upper part of the image, when the paper was then held vertically.
The contours of the face were then painted directly onto the picture using the refill bottle after it had dried.

Here are a few more inspirations. As you can see, this kind of creative activity is really fun. You can quickly create several works of art in one session.

Have fun trying it out.
