Neuland UnderCover - Kapitel 2: Blackberry

Neuland UnderCover - Chapter 2: Blackberry

Our experiments with the Neuland Cover marker are entering their second phase. A friendly, pastel berry shade has now joined Ocean UnderCover. You can find out how to mix it and what else you can do with it in the blog post.

Mix UnderCover Blackberry ink and fill markers

For the second part of our experiment you will need:

Here's how to mix your own UnderCover Blackberry ink:

When using cover ink, always shake the ink bottle until the mixing balls inside are moving freely. Then continue shaking for about a minute to ensure the white pigments are well distributed throughout the ink.

In our second attempt, we slightly changed the mixing ratio and are now mixing 1 refill ball of 705 BLACKBERRY with 4 refill balls of 050 COVER in the empty ink bottle. We are therefore working with a mixing ratio of 4:1 (Cover : color ink).

Then you fill your empty BigOne Art with your self-mixed ink. For a complete initial fill, you will need almost all of your freshly mixed ink, namely 4.5 refill balls.
You can find out how to best fill your marker here on Markerpedia .

Wait until the ink has drawn all the way to the tip, and then you can start using your homemade ink to create vibrant color accents on the dark paper.

Our experience with storing your cover and undercover markers:

If you're storing your cover markers and homemade undercover markers for an extended period, we recommend storing them horizontally. However, before using them, you should place the markers upside down in a No Vario box . This ensures that enough white pigment is fed into the nib. Don't forget to put them back in their "sleep" position after use. That way, you're always on the safe side!

If you think that's all there is to our experiment, you're very much mistaken. You can also mix inks directly on the paper. This is due to the different formulations of water-based color inks and permanent cover ink.

You can also mix UnderCover Blackberry on paper.

First, draw a berry shape filled with 705 BLACKBERRY on a piece of black paper.
You mean pointless because it's unrecognizable? Then take a cover marker and dab it into that area. Since the water-based ink doesn't dry permanently, it will be lifted by the water-based cover marker, and the two colors will mix. Finally, draw a white stem on top, and there you have it—a berry drawn with the UnderCover BLACKBERRY blending ink. 🙂

Draw on instead of omitting – undercover ink first, then outliner.

You've probably often painstakingly left out the area where no ink should go. But if you're working on black paper, you can also use the outliner directly on the undercover ink area.

Your two previously mixed UnderCover inks in use

Now we're putting the Neuland BigOne® Art Cover to use with the new, custom-mixed colors UnderCover OCAN and BLACKBERRY. So – what do you think of the result?

Conclusion

With the innovative BigOne® Art Cover , much more is possible than "just" creating opaque white outlines on dark backgrounds. In the next installment of this series, we will test a new UnderCover mix and present it to you here.

Stay curious!

PS: If you don't want to find out through your own experiments which color combinations mix well with the cover ink, then we recommend that you wait for the results of our UnderCover research.
