Politics meets small and medium-sized enterprises in the heart of Germany
Last Thursday, Neuland GmbH & Co. KG opened its doors to high-ranking representatives from the worlds of politics and business. The visit focused on a direct exchange of views on the future of regional small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as a tour of the modern production facilities at the company’s long-established site in Eichenzell.
Neuland has been firmly rooted in the Fulda district for 58 years and has established itself as a leading international manufacturer of tools for seminars, workshops and creative work. Its portfolio ranges from high-quality markers and flipcharts to specialised pinboards. Marc Schulze, who took over as managing director in June 2025, explained the strategic direction to the guests: “We produce analogue tools for collaboration whilst actively driving forward the digital transformation.” A key factor in this success, he said, is the company’s nearly 100 employees, whose loyalty – in some cases spanning decades – underlines the company’s stability.
Prominent politicians praise commitment to the local area
State Parliament Member Sebastian Müller (CDU) and Eichenzell’s Mayor Johannes Rothmund (CDU) accompanied the delegation. In their welcoming remarks, they highlighted the importance of Neuland as an employer and a driver of innovation. Rothmund particularly emphasised Eichenzell’s appeal as a location for fast-growing commercial enterprises.
The subsequent tour of the production halls, led by Karin Gutmann and Marko Kollmann, offered exclusive insights into the company’s vertical integration. In addition to presentation kits, cards, and paper and writing pads, Neuland manufactures everything entirely in-house – in some cases on specially developed machines to implement specific patents. However, products such as whiteboards, pinboards, flipcharts and markers are the mainstay of Neuland’s business activities, for which the company has gained its reputation in the market.
Dialogue in the ‘Playground’ – Appreciation for SMEs
Florian Wehner, District Chairman of the Fulda SME and Business Union (MIT), emphasised the significance of the event: ‘These regular factory tours are an important sign of appreciation for our SMEs in the Fulda district. This is where the foundation of our economic strength becomes visible.’
The event concluded with a get-together in the so-called “Playground”. This venue is used by Neuland both internally as a canteen and externally for professional workshops. Over food and drink, the setting provided the perfect opportunity for in-depth discussion: in a relaxed atmosphere, employees, politicians and business representatives explored the day’s topics in greater depth and strengthened regional networks.
With an export rate of around 20 to 30 per cent, “Made in Eichenzell” products are in demand worldwide, whilst the core market, accounting for up to 80 per cent, remains in Germany. To secure this market position in the long term, Neuland is consistently focusing on training young talent in the fields of e-commerce, administration and logistics.
